Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift made a major charitable move by donating $2 million to Answer The Call, an organization that supports families of New York City first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty. The donation carried a deeply personal meaning for a widow who lost her husband more than 40 years ago, reminding her that his sacrifice will never be forgotten. The move reached families who have spent years carrying the memories of their loved ones. Among them was Valerie Perry, whose husband, Port Authority Police Department Officer William J. Perry, died after being shot in the line of duty on Dec. 22, 1980. After learning about Kelce and Swift’s donation, Perry shared how much the support meant to her and her family.

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s $2 million donation reminds families their loved ones are not forgotten

For Perry, the donation was not just about money. It was about remembering the people behind the tragedy. She explained that Answer The Call had been a source of support throughout the years and helped families like hers feel connected.Plus, Perry shared her emotional reaction after hearing about the donation. In a message shared following the announcement, she wrote, “I am one of the older widows. My William was shot and killed on Dec. 22, 1980. We buried him on Christmas Eve. Answer the Call has changed my life with our yearly checks, but they have also brought smiles because I feel like my Bill is always remembered, even after all these years”She also explained how Answer The Call continued to keep her husband’s memory alive. Perry said the organization’s support made her feel that her husband was still remembered, even after more than four decades. Then came the news of Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s contribution. Perry said, “ I am in tears for such a gift to all these families that have been through so much. Prayers for your future together, and God bless both of you for your generosity and your caring souls for doing something so amazing.”The donation came shortly after the Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden. While the event attracted attention because of the couple’s star power, their charitable efforts became another major part of the story. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end and the Grammy-winning singer also extended their support to multiple causes as part of their charitable efforts. Their donations reached organizations focused on food assistance, education, children, and communities in need. However, Answer The Call held a special place because of the personal connection it created with families of fallen first responders. The organization works with families who lost loved ones from agencies including the NYPD, FDNY, and Port Authority Police Department.Back in 1985, iconic New York Mets star Rusty Staub joined hands with J. Patrick “Paddy” Burns, VP of the New York Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, to create Answer The Call. The main motto of this initiative is to turn public sympathy into permanent protection. As of now, the non-profit acts as a foundational pillar for NYC’s frontline families, stepping in immediately after a tragedy strikes with rapid financial aid and continuing to do that for surviving widows and kids for decades to comeFor families like Perry’s, the donation served as a reminder that their loved ones’ sacrifices still matter. Years may pass, but the memories remain. As Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift begin this new chapter together, their $2 million move created a moment that went beyond celebrity headlines. It gave families of fallen first responders another reminder that their stories continue to be heard and their loved ones will never be forgotten.
