NEW DELHI: As India gear up for their highly anticipated ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener against arch-rivals Pakistan, the Women’s team received a major boost with members of the men’s side sending heartfelt messages of support and encouragement ahead of the blockbuster encounter.Fresh from their historic Women’s ODI World Cup triumph last year, Harmanpreet Kaur and her side enter the tournament carrying the expectations of millions and hoping to end their long wait for a maiden Women’s T20 World Cup title.Ahead of Sunday’s clash against Pakistan at Edgbaston, several stars from the men’s setup came together in a special video shared by the BCCI, urging the Women in Blue to play fearlessly and bring home the trophy.

Rohit, Gambhir and Gill rally behind Women in Blue

Former India captain Rohit Sharma praised the team’s consistency and backed them to finally go the distance in T20 cricket.“They’ve been playing really good cricket for the past few years now. I know in T20 cricket they’ve come very close, but I want this time around to go all the way. Everyone’s rooting for them. They have a solid team, very well-balanced team. And they’ll enjoy playing in England. Best wishes from all of us here in Men’s Team India,” Rohit said.Head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered an inspirational message, urging the players to embrace the occasion with positivity.“I’m sure that you’re going to make 140 crore Indians proud. Not many people get the opportunity to represent the country on the world stage. Don’t be scared of making a mistake. Every time you’re in doubt, take the positive route. Good luck, bring the cup home,” Gambhir said.India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill also expressed confidence in the side’s ability to script history once again.“You guys have won it before and you’ll do it again. Our full wishes to you and all the best for the World Cup,” Gill said.

‘Be fearless, be ruthless’

Newly appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer called on the team to maintain an aggressive approach throughout the tournament.“Here’s wishing all the very best to the Indian women’s cricket team. Be fearless, be ruthless and play to win,” he said.Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan urged the players to keep things simple and trust the methods that have brought them success.“You all have been playing amazing cricket. Just keep it simple and trust what you have done throughout the year. We are all very proud of you and hope we win this trophy,” Kishan added.India begin their campaign against Pakistan in Birmingham on Sunday, with Harmanpreet’s side aiming to make a strong start in the expanded 12-team competition.
