A 28-year-old law student died and a 25-year-old woman was hospitalised after they fell ill during a techno music concert at Mumbai’s NSCI Dome in Worli Saturday night, prompting police to register a case against two senior executives of the event management firm that organised the show.

Police lodged the case against Karan Singh (40), CEO, and Parag Narendra Uke (42), senior manager, at Space Bound, the event company.

The deceased, Rushil Gangurde, developed severe health complications around 9 pm, police said. He was rushed to hospital, where he died during treatment. The woman was admitted to another hospital where her condition has since stabilised. She had travelled from Odisha to attend the event, police said. Police sources said they were investigating whether at least one of the incidents was linked to alcohol consumption at the venue.

“We have recorded the statements of around 15 persons, including Singh and Uke, as well as officials associated with the NSCI Dome. Our investigation has found no evidence of drug consumption. Alcohol was served at the event, and the woman who was admitted to hospital has stated that she had consumed it,” an officer said.

On Gangurde’s death, the officer said: “The preliminary post-mortem report has not indicated the presence of any intoxicating substance…”

Singh and Uke have been charged under BNS sections pertaining to death by negligence, among others.

The concert, Outworld Mumbai, is part of a concept created by German DJ and producer Klangkuenstler (Michael Korb).
