Delhi high court transfers district judge over 'objectionable' conduct

NEW DELHI: Delhi high court on Sunday evening transferred a judge of the Rohini district court. A lawyers’ body had demanded the transfer of district judge-4 (northwest) Rakesh Kumar V.He has been attached to the director of Delhi Judicial Academy with immediate effect.Judicial officer Dhiraj Mittal has been transferred from the academy to the Rohini court as the replacement.Registrar-general Arun Bhardwaj issued the transfer orders on Sunday.Lawyers of the Delhi district courts had raised a demand for the transfer of judge Kumar after a dispute between him and advocate Rajiv Tehlan, who is the president of the Rohini Court Bar Association. The coordination committee of All-Delhi District Bar Associations had called a strike on Monday in all district courts over this matter. On Sunday, the coordination committee issued the circular in this regard. It said that in an emergent meeting, the committee resolved that the highly objectionable and unbecoming conduct displayed on May 16 by judge Kumar towards an advocate, who also happens to be the president of the Rohini Court Bar Association, during proceedings, had caused deep resentment and serious concern among all the members of the district court bar.The circular also said that the coordination committee resolved that judge Kumar should be immediately transferred from the Rohini courts. All judicial work be withdrawn from him forthwith, and an inquiry into his conduct would be initiated at the earliest.Advocate Vijay Bishnoi, the secretary general of the coordination committee, on Sunday issued the circular and requested all its members to extend their full cooperation.
