Vignesh Shivan on Dhanush fallout: 'Love Insurance Kompany' director says losing their friendship is his biggest regret
Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan expressed deep regret over his fractured friendship with actor Dhanush, whom he considers a fatherly figure. This public rift emerged after Nayanthara accused Dhanush of sending a legal notice regarding a clip from their film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ used in her wedding documentary. Shivan shared his emotional turmoil over the lost bond.

Filmmaker Vignesh Shivan has spoken openly about his strained relationship with actor Dhanush. The public fallout began in 2024 when Nayanthara wrote a strong open letter accusing Dhanush of sending a legal notice demanding Rs 10 crore for the unauthorised use of a three-second clip from their 2015 film ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ in her wedding documentary ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’. In a recent interview, the ‘LIK’ director expressed deep regret over losing the friendship with the ‘Idly Kadai’ actor. Vignesh described Dhanush as someone very important in his life and compared him to a fatherly figure.

Vignesh Shivan’s emotional confession

During the conversation with Gobinath on his YouTube channel, Vignesh said in Tamil, “I admire Dhanush a lot. His birthday falls on July 28… the same day my father passed away. In a way, I see a fatherly presence in him and relate to him like that. Losing that bond with my father is my greatest loss, and it’s something that still brings me a sense of guilt. I often feel there must have been a mistake somewhere along the way. In the life I’m living now, Dhanush sir holds a very special place for me.”He admitted feeling ashamed about how things turned out between them.

Memories from ‘VIP’ days

Vignesh recalled the time he spent with Dhanush during the shoot of VIP, “I spent two years with him during the VIP shoot. I would only eat after he had eaten. Sometimes, when things happen between people, we don’t fully understand the situation ourselves.”

The ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’ controversy

The issue between Nayanthara and Dhanush kickstarted in the year 2024 when the ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhaan’ actor wrote an open letter accusing Dhanush of taking legal action against her and Vignesh over a three-second clip from her 2015 film ‘NRD’ used in her wedding documentary trailer ‘Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale’ .

‘Love Insurance Kompany’ update

Meanwhile, Vignesh Shivan is currently busy with the release of his next film ‘Love Insurance Kompany’. The trailer was recently unveiled by lead actor Pradeep Ranganathan with the caption, “It’s the #LIK adaavadi!”.The sci-fi romantic comedy is set in the year 2040. SJ Suryah plays the founder of a high-tech matchmaking company called Love Insurance Kompany. Pradeep Ranganathan’s character works as the voice of the app that checks couple compatibility using advanced technology.
