'Showed him wedding saree, invite’: Bengaluru bodybuilder dies by suicide after girlfriend’s engagement; planned to celebrate Valentine’s Day together

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old gym trainer and bodybuilder allegedly died by suicide at his home in north Bengaluru on Saturday evening after learning that the woman he loved was engaged to marry someone else. The deceased has been identified as Kiran, a resident of Geleyara Balaga Layout in Mahalakshmi Layout. He reportedly left behind a death note naming his lover and her mother as responsible for his death. Kiran had been in a relationship with the woman for nearly three years. According to the preliminary investigation, the incident came to light on Saturday evening when he locked himself inside his room and died by hanging. Family members told police that Kiran had been deeply distressed for the past two weeks after the woman informed him about her engagement and showed him her wedding invitation and a wedding saree. He was reportedly planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day and give her a gift, but the news of her impending marriage left him devastated. After returning home that evening, Kiran asked his mother for a white sheet of paper and a pen. When she grew suspicious and asked why he needed them, he reassured her not to worry and claimed it was for writing about financial transactions. Later, when he did not respond to calls from inside the room, family members forced open the door and found him hanging. When police visited the house, they recovered a death note in which Kiran allegedly mentioned the woman and her mother as the reason for his extreme step. He is also said to have written his mobile phone password in the note. Family members alleged that Kiran had spent his earnings to help clear his lover’s loan and had introduced her to them, saying he planned to marry her. Kiran had also participated in several bodybuilding competitions. The body has been shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem. Based on a complaint filed by the family, Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case, and further investigation is underway. If you are having suicidal thoughts or in need of emotional support, call suicide prevention helplines: Tele-Manas helpline: 14416 or 1800-891-4416, SAHAI Helpline: 080-25497777.
