Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, closed in red on Tuesday after profit booking. The NSE Nifty fell 29.85 points or 0.11 per cent to 25,936.20. The BSE Sensex dropped 150.68 points or 0.18 per cent to close at 84,628.16, having fallen by 559.45 points or 0.65 per cent to 84,219.39 during trading hours. “The Nifty-50 traded within a narrow 25,800–26,000 range for most of the day, reflecting cautious sentiment ahead of key global events such as the US Federal Reserve’s policy outcome,” said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth tech firm according to a PTI report.But, even while there was volatility during the expiry session, Indian markets saw resilience, with both indices showing significant recovery in the final thirty minutes of trading, he noted.Among Sensex components, Trent, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra, Power Grid, Tata Consultancy Services and Bajaj Finance were the main losers. Tata Steel, Larsen & Toubro, State Bank of India, and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the top gainers.Asian markets closed lower, including South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai’s SSE Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng. European markets showed mixed performance, while US markets finished positively on Monday.FIIs sold equities worth Rs 55.58 crore on Monday, while DIIs purchased stocks of around Rs 2,492.12 crore, according to exchange data.
