NEW DELHI: Indian and Chinese soldiers exchanged sweets across the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Diwali. Yu Jing, spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in India, confirmed the exchange on social media, calling it a “gesture of goodwill” between the troops. The development comes at a time when India-China relations have shown gradual improvement over the past months. The progress come amid shifting trade and diplomatic priorities, particularly after the United States imposed a 50% tariff on Indian exports.

In August, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited China for the first time in seven years during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, where he met president Xi Jinping. Meanwhile, India did not take part in the customary Diwali sweet exchange with Pakistan this year, reflecting the tensions between the two neighbours post the Pahalgam attack.
